Below you will find the answers to the questions we most often receive. Should you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to call us.

Will my car give off black smoke?

A vehicle giving off smoke is often a vehicle that is badly tuned, or is equipped with a low performance add-on unit.  If your car is correctly tuned to start off with, you won’t have any trouble with the TuningBox® unit.

Will my maximum speed change?

 No, the TuningBox® does not modify the speed governor. Speed is not what we are after. The TuningBox® increases torque and power.

What is the difference between a Tuningbox and the OBD system (chip tuning)?

The OBD system is a form of tuning based on the principle of injection through your car’s diagnostic connector. For an optimized program, you therefore need to re-program the chip in your original unit.

I read on a site that add-on units have a triggering threshold.  That means that if you drive using very little acceleration, your car, without any intervention on your part, can suddenly accelerate to 1500-1900 rpm

 Absolutely not! To check it out, just look at our power curves, you will see that the gain in power is linear, it follows the original curve.

Will TuningBox® shorten the life of my engine?

 No, the modifications made by TuningBox® are within acceptable tolerances, so as to avoid abnormal engine wear.

Can a TuningBox® unit be installed on an automatic car?

 No problem! TuningBox® is adapted to all automatic or tiptronic models

Does TuningBox® increase power and fuel consumption?

 If, despite heightened driving pleasure, you don’t change the way you drive, consumption will decrease.  Consumption is directly linked to the way you use the accelerator. The more you press the pedal, the more fuel you will consume. However, TuningBox® increases torque. Therefore, to reach the same speed, you don’t need to press so hard on the accelerator as you would without the unit, and so fuel consumption reduces by 10 to 12%.  It goes without saying that this reduction will be effective if you do lots of motorway driving or use A roads, as town driving doesn't often use the torque.

Can I install my own TuningBox® even if I’m not particularly technically gifted?

TuningBox® can be installed by someone with no mechanical knowledge at all. It comes with safe connectors that will not install in the wrong direction.  It comes with detailed instructions. What’s more, you can call our technical service on +32 (0)80 67 83 72 . Depending on the model, installation takes between 2 and 45 minutes.

What length of guarantee comes with TuningBox®?

TuningBox® offers a comprehensive 5 year guarantee.

I can’t find my label / model of car in your application list?

If it is an older model, it is improbable that we have the model.  If it is a recent model, the TuningBox® is probably undergoing development.  Drop us an e-mail for further details.

What will happen if my garage connects its diagnostic tool?

Before going to your garage, we advise you to remove the TuningBox® (this takes a couple of minutes).  As soon as this is done there will be no trace of it in the original unit, and the garage will detect nothing during the diagnostic.

What happens to the exhaust rating?

 The exhaust rating doesn’t change.

My car is equipped with a particle filter. Is there a risk of it being damaged?

There is no risk for the particle filter.  Unlike many other economy units, the TuningBox® unit is equipped with an intelligent system.  This means that the quantity of fuel injected is linked to the engine speed.  The particle filter cleans itself at low revolutions.  As the TuningBox® unit respects your engine's speeds; the filter cleans itself without any problem.

Can I come directly to you to have my TuningBox® installed?

Yes, certainly you can come here, and test your car as well, HOWEVER YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!

Could my car undergo a power test on your bench?

No problem, we can carry out a test before and after the unit is installed.  Warning, the power test is NOT included in the price of the unit! AND YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT!!

What if I receive my TuningBox® but I can’t find the connector on my engine to install it?

If you have the slightest question about installation, telephone our technical service on +32 (0)80 67 83 72  . Real technicians, who carry out dozens of connections a day, will be there and happy to help you.

Why isn’t there a unit for older car models?

Older cars used a MECHANICAL injection system.  So, our electronic system can’t offer a solution.

Why are the power ratings different between the data on your curves and those on your application list?

The data on our application list represents the minimum GUARANTEED values, but in most cases, the increase in power is much greater. 

I ordered a TuningBox® and I’ve received a model that looks different to the one on your site?

We have more than 20 different units.  Depending on your car’s system and model, the type of connector and the plug-in location may vary.  The site only shows the most popular standard models, but rest assured, the manufacturing standards remain constant (OEM compatible connectors, etc.).

Do I have to send you my OEM unit?

No, the TuningBox® is connected between the on-board computer and the pump, just like an extension.  You can install it yourself without any difficulty.

Does TuningBox® take other safety parameters (ABS, ESP, etc.) into account?

Of course, TuningBox® keeps all OEM safety systems operational.

I have visited other sites and found text and images that look disturbingly like yours!  Is it the same company?

We are victims of our own success.  We have been surprised to find ‘copycat’ sites on the Internet that shamelessly use our text, photos, curves, etc.  We even found sites with photos of our workshops.

So beware! Those who say ‘manufacturer’ may not be one!

Of course, that doesn’t mean that there are no serious companies other than ours ;-)

I have a TuningBox® but I’ve sold my car.  Can I use it again?

You can only use it again if you have purchased a car with the same injection system.  To know which vehicles use the same injection system, go to our site, search for your car and then click on "List of cars with same unit".

You can also sell it second hand, and the 5 year guarantee will remain valid for any remaining years.

How can I be certain I haven’t bought a copy?

There are some online sales sites that sell counterfeit TuningBox® units at ridiculously low prices.  Quite often these units are connected to the temperature sensor, or other unlikely places, or they do not have OEM compatible connectors.  Beware of this kind of unit, it could prove dangerous for your car.  If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to call us.

Are the curves you show on the TuningBox® site authentic?

All the curves shown on our Internet site are authentic curves printed from our own power benches.  None of them have been touched up using graphics applications.

Why can’t I find any prices on your site?

We currently export to more than 30 countries, and the prices vary from one to another, especially due to fluctuations in VAT rates.  Just send us an e-mail and we’ll e-mail you back with the price in your country.
